Hi. Me, again.
I missed last week’s Tuesdays on the Run post. Well, in fairness, I was on vacation, and away from home, and… I’m full of excuses. I had a computer with me. (Two, actually.) And I wasn’t in some exotic remote spot with no internet connection. I just didn’t do it.
That’s how running has been going, too. I have good intentions. Plan to get up early on Saturday. Attempt to go to bed at a decent hour on Friday. And say I’m going to run before work. But I just haven’t done it.
This Independence Day, I declared to hit the reboot button on my life and start doing the things I really enjoy (like running and writing).
So, I woke up at 7 a.m. Sat down at the computer. Drank a cup of coffee. And another. Ate my peanut butter on toast pre-run breakfast. Then started a load of laundry. Then picked up my iPhone and scrolled though Instagram. Oh, I forgot I had to get something done for work. That took about 20 minutes. Next thing I knew, it was 10 o’clock.
But I was determined. So I got dressed. And then this.
Who can resist that face. The moment Lucy sees me putting on running clothes she goes bonkers. Sit down to put my shoes on? Forget it! She is all over me, tail wagging, the anticipation building. I gave in. Partly out of guilt for leaving her at the vet for five nights last week. And knowing I am about to drop her off again for four more nights. Off we went for a one-mile trek around our neighborhood.
When I got back, it was 10:30. And now it was close to 80 degrees outside. But I went for it. I filled up my water bottle, hopped in the car and sped off to my favorite trail. I was determined.
I made myself run, and I’m glad I did. It wasn’t pretty. It even rained a little. But it was fun, actually. I knew it would be. Here are some photos from my run:
Same thing with this post. I just made myself sit down 30 minutes ago to bang this out. (I really wanted to stay on the couch and continue watching the Chopped marathon on Food Network.) But, here I am at the computer (don’t worry, Chopped is on in the kitchen, where the computer lives) and I feel really good. I love to write, so that is what I am going to do.
What did you do this July 4th? (Brett is working, by the way, so no big celebration for us today, but I needed the rest between vacations–we’re headed out again on Thursday.) Let me know and be sure to check out Patty, Erika and Marcia, who I’ve linked up with for this post.
See you back here next week. If not sooner.
