I may have mentioned this a time or two. I enjoy running. And I enjoy Disney even more. So when I get to combine the two it’s, well, magical. This week’s Tuesdays on the Run is about my experiences running at Walt Disney World. Not the runDisney races. Those are wonderful experiences, too. I mean actually packing your running shoes to take advantage of the amazing scenery you can only find running through the most magical place on Earth. While on vacation. Before hitting the parks.
It may sound crazy to run before a long day at the theme parks. But running at WDW is something I always look forward to doing. It’s a great way to kick off the day, especially if you plan on spending the rest of it at the pool. Drinking margaritas. (That may have happened on our most recent trip.)
Runners staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels have a few options when they want to pound the pavement. Many of the resort hotels have winding pathways to follow. Some paths connect the hotel property to other hotel properties. Some paths even lead to other areas like Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney) or the Boardwalk area.
New Balance Running Trails
Many of the Walt Disney World Resort hotel areas now have New Balance Running Trails. Designated trails are plotted out and marked with maps around the route. The trails are marked with specific lengths, so you know exactly how many miles you are covering. Even if you left your running watch back home. I am so happy about these trails because they are designated running areas where I don’t feel like I am trespassing or infringing on other visitors.
Earlier this month we spent fall break at the Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. (More to come in a later post on that amazing hotel and Disney Vacation Club property.) It was an action-packed four days, but I did manage to get in two runs on the New Balance Running Trail between Polynesian and the Grand Floridian Resort and spa.
This is a beautiful course, running along the beach of the Seven Seas Lagoon. It is 1.8 miles round trip (although I was able to stretch it into two miles). I started out at Polynesian, running past the tropical foliage that lines the hotel buildings. The trail then passes by the new Disney Vacation Club bungalows. You can even see Cinderella’s Castle across the lake. Beautiful!
The trail continues out of the Polynesian resort area and runs by Disney’s Wedding Pavilion on the way to the Grand Floridian. Again, it is just beautiful.
The trail runs through the Grand Floridian grounds, where I went a bit further on my own before stopping for a selfie with the Monorail. You can’t see that at home!
At the end of the run, I hit Capt. Cook’s for, what else, Mickey waffles!
Previously I have run along the New Balance Running Trails at the Boardwalk Resort Area and Saratoga Springs Resort. Both are great, but I think the Poly-GF trail is my favorite. Just for the pure beauty of the lake, the foliage, the palm trees, oh, and the view of the castle!
So there you have it. If you have a vacation planned at Walt Disney World, I highly recommend you hit the running trails in addition to the theme parks. Fast Pass and Magic Band not required!
I am linking up with fellow bloggers Patty, Erika and Marcia for this week’s Tuesdays on the Run post. Check out their blogs for some fun posts on running and how they inspire others to run. (They inspire me!)
