Running is fun, right?! That’s what I tell myself. No, really. It is. But sometimes, especially in the midst of training for a half or full marathon, a fun-filled race is what you need to find the joy again. We’re talking novelty runs in today’s Tuesdays on the Run linkup. Check out host bloggers April, Patty, and Erika. I know these ladies have some fun runs to share.
So, here’s the deal. I really haven’t done many novelty runs. Yes, I’ve finished my fair share of local 5Ks. I guess you could consider some to be novelty. But I haven’t had much interest in doing a color run, or glow run, or foam run. (I despise running in the rain, so running through paint or foam just doesn’t appeal to me.) I did recently complete two virtual runs. I’m going to be honest here. I just don’t get it. Yes, the money went to good causes, but I did not enjoy registering for a race, paying the entry fee, and then running my regular route by myself. I am a social runner. I love to be with other runners. The virtual races were just not fun.
I guess you could consider runDisney races to be novelty races. When I tell my serious running friends that I dress up in a costume to run a race, then stop along the way to take photos with Disney characters, they think I am nuts.
But if you are a Disney fan, there is nothing like a runDisney race. Check out a previous post about the reasons I love running in the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend races.
Do you run in novelty races? Which ones are your favorites? Let me know in the comments below.
