Yes, I’ve taken a brief hiatus from running (kind of like this blog!), but I’m back at it because no matter how much I b*%$h and complain about it and constantly procrastinate getting out the door, I really do enjoy running.
This week’s topic is summer running gear. I live in the South, so my summer running gear is not that different from my winter gear. I switch out long sleeves for tank tops; leggins for running skirts. I have short hair, so I always wear a hat to hold it back, summer or winter. (Well, if it’s really cold in the winter, I’ll wear a head band to cover my ears.)
So I’m just going to talk about my love for a certain brand of running skirts: Skirt Sports.
I own seven skirts in three varieties: Gym Girl Ultra, Lotta Breeze Capri, and I just bought a Mod Quad.
The Gym Girl Ultra is the ultimate running skirt with built in shortie-leggins that don’t budge and and a slit for ultimate movement. And did I mention pockets? (You always have to store something on a run!) I ran both the Enchanted 10K and Princess Half Marathon races in Gym Girl Ultra’s this year.
I LOVE my Lotta Breeze Capri skirts. I like these for running in the fall and winter (if it’s not too cold), but you will find me in these all weekend long, year-round. (Did I mention I love them?) I only own two pairs (I need to fix that soon) and they have held up for years. The capris fall mid-shin, so they really work 365-days a year.
I just bought a (new to me) Mod Quad skirt because I saw if for sale on a Facebook group for a ridiculously low price. (I’m in several seller Facebook groups for various brands of running skirts, Pandora charms, Disney Dooneys. That’s a topic for another blog post.) It’s got four pockets: two on the built-in shorties and two on the outside, similar to the pockets on a pair of jeans. It’s super cute and I’ve already been wearing it on the weekends, running errands, etc. This skirt would be great for golf (I assume?) and looks less like a running skirt, so it’s a perfect compromise if you want to “elevate” your weekend casual look.
Skirt Sports has many other designs. I think my next skirt will be the Happy Girl, as it is a little longer and will be more practical for vacations and trips (Walt Disney World, anyone?)
I just love wearing skirts, opposed to shorts. I think they are more comfortable and way more flattering.
Skirt Sports skirts are a little pricey, but the company has frequent sales and you can often find discount codes. Plus it’s a woman-owned company and I like supporting that.
The skirts are extremely well-made — I have owned some of my skirts for years and have worn and washed them many times and they do not show any wear or tear. Bonus: all of the skirts have a “hole” on the back right hip for earbuds (connected to my iPhone in my pocket).
Speaking of iPhones, the one criticism I have, and I hope the company addresses this, is the pocket size. As iPhones get larger, the pockets have remained the same size. I can barely fit my 6S in there and I’m not certain I could fit a 7 inside one of pockets. If you’re reading this, Sport Skirts, please make the pockets larger!
