Like Johnny Depp in the latest Pirates in the Caribbean film, I am returning to the (small) screen this Memorial Day weekend. That’s right, I am reviving my Late to the Party blog after an 18 month hiatus.
So, you may have some questions. (Or maybe not.) I will try to answer them here.
Why did you stop blogging?
A combination of things led to my break. First, I started a new job, and while it was fun and exciting, it was also a little scary and stressful. I didn’t have much energy when not working to think of witty things about which to write, so I didn’t. Second, I treated this blog like a second job, with the goal of writing three posts a week. When I didn’t do that, I felt like I failed. So I stopped writing all together. I now realize the later is ridiculous. This is supposed to be a fun forum for me to share my love of Disney, joy of running (although that has waned recently, too), and thoughts about my family. Sure, I’d love to have a larger audience, become an “influencer,” get invited to blogger meet-ups, etc. But if that doesn’t happen, that’s OK.
Have you been to Walt Disney World during your break?
YES! I have continued to run each year in the Princess Half Marathon in February.
Last Memorial Day weekend, Brett, Hallie and I took a trip to Walt Disney World, and then to Vero Beach (and back again to WDW). During that trip, we completed one of my bucket list adventures: all four parks in one day! This past February, after running the Princess Half Marathon, Brett and I boarded the Disney Cruise Line Wonder for a four-night cruise to the Bahamas. (Hallie stayed home. And it was heaven!)
Do you have more trips planned?
Of course! We are going to WDW for fall break and staying for the first time at Boulder Ridge, the older Wilderness Lodge DVC resort. We also plan to add on a day at Universal Studios to see Harry Potter World. And I have registered (again) for the Princess Half Marathon weekend in 2018. We are also going in June to visit family in Virginia and plan to take a short trip to Washington, D.C. Oh, and we just booked a Christmas 2018 DCL cruise!
Have you run any more races or half marathons?
Not really. I’ve done a few 5Ks here and there. I did not register for the St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon in 2016 and I regretted it. I signed up for the Nashville Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon in both 2016 and this year and, honestly, after running the PHM in February, fell off the running wagon both years and didn’t run them. Lesson learned: I’m just not that motivated to do two races so close together. Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself. I do plan to run the Memphis half this year, though. Maybe I’m more motivated to run destination races because I have so much invested in them.
Any family updates?
Hallie just finished 7th grade, so next school year will be filled with special events and preparing for (gulp) high school. Brett is still brewing beer. Still making plans to (someday) open a craft brewery. And still blogging. (Check out his blog here.)
Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy following along on my adventures in the great wide somewhere.
